An Inside Wireman installs and maintains lighting, receptacles, motors, heating equipment, and systems found in commercial and industrial facilities.  The Inside Wireman also installs conduit systems that contain power cables or control cables feeding different types of equipment.

The work of an Inside Wireman can vary from installing a Fire Alarm System or Security System in a high-rise building to installing conduit in a ditch on the outside of the building.  Other work can include installation and repair of temporary power, grounding systems, services, traffic signals, and outdoor lighting, instrumentation and process control systems, energy management systems, and telephone and data systems.
 

Apprenticeship opportunities are available in the Inside Wireman Program only at this time.  The Inside Wireman program covers work in the Industrial, Commercial, and Residential areas.  These are great jobs at a living wage with healthcare benefits and retirement.

The Inside Wireman program is a 5-year program, with graduates eligible to take the State Journey-level Electrician (01) Exam. Once an applicant completes the application process (see how to apply), including documentation, aptitude test, and interview and is called off the eligibility list, they will be registered into the Apprenticeship Program, and they become a First-Year Apprentice.  The apprentice will be placed on the job with one of our Signatory Contractors and begin earning their 8,000 hours of on-the-job training as well as their hourly wage.  Approximately one week, every six weeks, the apprentice will attend related training (school) here at the Training Center.  The apprentice does not get paid during their week of school; however, they are eligible to receive unemployment during this time. At the end of every school year, apprentices are required to take and pass Performance Evaluations, before entering their next year of school.

Books and tuition are due at the beginning of each of the five (5) school years, which is usually in August and costs approximately $2000 -$3000, depending on which year of school you are entering.  First-year apprentices should anticipate purchasing approximately $900 in tools when beginning their apprenticeship.  Books and tuition are non-refundable and due before the school year starts.  Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis. First-year apprentices start out at 40% of journey-level scale, which at this time is $21.86/hour plus medical, dental, and vision benefits and pension.
